A MOTHER and daughter in Teesdale are raising funds for a charity trek.

Carol and Laura Heaviside, from Dickens Road, Barnard Castle, hope to raise a total of £5,000 for a sponsored trek along the Great Wall of China.

Proceeds from the trek will go towards the Butterwick Children's Hospice.

The trek takes place in September, and the pair will be walking five to seven hours a day for seven days.

Mrs Heaviside, 47, a nurse at the Richardson Hospital, said: "I saw this advertised and thought it would be a good thing to do."

Miss Heaviside, 20, a second-year student at Lancaster University, added: "I just got a random text message at unviersity from mum saying, 'did I want to go to China?'

"I've done the Great North Run for the Butterwick and mum's a nurse, so it all seemed to fit."

To sponsor them, call Miss Heaviside on 07749 974003. A collection bucket will also be available in Barnard Castle Post Office.
