PART of a north Durham village is to be given a £59,000 makeover.
Work is due to start this month on a scheme to create a layby and resurface a section of footpath at The Middles, Craghead.
The layby will be sited outside Craghead Village Hall, in Standerton Terrace, where flagstones have been broken by parked cars.
Broken paving will also be resurfaced on the north side of Standerton Terrace along Greylingstadt Terrace to Middles Road, beside Bloemfontein Junior School.
It is hoped the scheme will improve access to the village hall and shops and make it safer for pedestrians.
The work follows a public consultation exercise last September.
Funding for the work comes from Durham County Council's urban and rural renaissance and maintenance budgets, local county councillor David Marshall's budget, and the Green Corridor Neighbourhood Partnership.
The work is expected to take about four weeks.
