A MOTHER-OF-ONE is gearing up for a gruelling cycle challenge in India to raise more than £2,500 to improve the health of women and babies.
Jayne Watson is appealing for support as she prepares for the 425km bike ride through Rajasthan in November.
Over the next 11 months, she will be undertaking an intense training programme to build up her physical strength and stamina.
The 36-year-old, of Wilken Crescent, Guisborough, is tackling the trip, which has been organised by the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology Trust's Women for Women Appeal which funds vital research.
Mrs Watson is hoping to raise £2,700 for the appeal, which will help train women scientists and clinicians to improve prevention, diagnosis and care of women's health problems and those associated with conception, through pregnancy to birth and the early days of the baby's life.
Mrs Watson, said: "I have already lost four stone in weight in the last two years, and I am hoping to lose another two stone during my training .
"I will be training to get myself fit for the event.
"I have only just started riding a bike after 20 years, and the fitness training will be as much of a challenge to me as the ride itself, but I am determined to do my best and to raise as much money as possible for this worthy charity."
The challenge takes place from November 16 to 26.
