AN alcoholic stole frozen meats from two stores in a bid to get cash.
Edward McKie Dow, 42, of Marshall Avenue, Middlesbrough, was caught stealing 12 gammon rounds and two bacon joints from Iceland and four packs of bacon from Heron's supermarket, both in the town, on January 4.
He pleaded guilty to stealing the meat, worth a total of £25, but Hartlepool Magistrates' Court was told he had unpaid fines worth £400 from previous convictions.
The case was adjourned until February 1 for pre-sentence reports to be completed, and Dow was bailed on condition that he does not enter Iceland or Heron's supermarket in Hartlepool.
He was ordered to start repaying the unpaid fines at £10 a fortnight.
