MORE than 100 people have given their views on open spaces in Darlington.
A recent consultation by Darlington Borough Council asked people what they thought of its open spaces.
Every piece of open and green space has been assessed and given a star rating, which took into account accessibility, facilities and quality of the space.
A number of consultation sessions were held. A survey was also conducted to give people a chance to comment on the ratings.
About two-thirds of respondents thought the council's star ratings were very or mostly fair and representative.
Other issues raised included the walking distance to parks, play areas and allotments, access to school green spaces, the value of all open spaces in urban areas, the poor quality of some open spaces and the problem of main roads making it difficult to get to open spaces.
Councillor Lee Vasey, cabinet member for leisure services said: "We were delighted that people wanted to have the say on open spaces around the borough."
All comments will be considered to help finalise the star ratings and shape the council's open spaces strategy. A draft strategy will be published in late spring, when further consultations will take place.
