LEAFLETS providing information on health services in County Durham was announced as the runner-up in a national awards ceremony.
They were produced by the County Durham NHS Communications Service on behalf of the Durham and Chester-le-Street, Derwent- side, Durham Dales and Easington primary care trusts (PCT).
They beat off competition from PCTs across the country to come second in the patient prospectus (guide to local health services) category in the Nexus Annual Reports and Patient Prospectus Awards.
PCTs have been required to produce a guide to local health services each year since 2002, to signpost people to health services in their area. They also give information on how the NHS locally spends its money to improve healthcare, treatment and prevention.
The entries for this year's award were judged on factors including content, clarity of information, design, innovation, overall impact and value for money.
Tina Young, manager of the County Durham NHS Communications Service, said: "With patient information becoming an increasing priority for the PCTs, and all local NHS organisations in County Durham, it is extremely important that the format in which we produce information is of a high quality and that we communicate effectively."
