ENGINEERING consultancy Desco Design is recruiting 15 staff after moving to larger premises.
The Sunderland company, which provides mechanical and electrical design services to the construction industry, made the move to Doxford Park after investing nearly £500,000.
It invested £400,000 of its own money in the offices and received a £90,000 grant from regional development agency One NorthEast.
Paul Marshall, co-founder and co-director of Desco, said: "I was working for a large national company, along with co-directors Marco Ambelez, Paul Saxton and David Wright.
"We all had a burning ambition to do something on our own so, in 1998, we started Desco.
"We decided to leave our base at Sunderland Enterprise Park to move to a state-of-the-art, purpose-built office block, and the grant support from One NorthEast was a big help."
Desco has been involved in a number of high-profile regional and national projects.
They include work on One NorthEast's headquarters at Newburn Riverside, the Citygate office and Eldon Square shopping centre developments, in Newcastle, and Monks Park Business Park, in York. Since moving to Doxford Business Park, the company has increased its workforce from 32 to 39.
