A FORMER reservoir could be demolished under proposals put forward by water company bosses.
Northumbrian Water is seeking permission to remove the embankments and the stone pumping tower at the site in Darlington Road, in Sadberge.
The proposals have been submitted to Darlington Borough Council and will be considered by its planning committee next week.
Four letters of objection have been received, with the demolition of the stone tower on the land a key concern.
The structure was used by the Observer Corps during the Second World War, but council officers believe it is not of enough interest to merit becoming a protected monument.
A report to the planning committee, which meets on Wednesday, says: "The application is considered acceptable. The finished profile of the site will alter the appearance of the landscape in the area, but not to any significant extent."
