HEALTH service workers are being encouraged to brush up on their English and maths skills in a series of roadshows.
The Test The Trust scheme has been organised by East Durham and Houghall Community College, with funding from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
College staff have been working with County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust to help health service staff achieve a nationally accredited qualification by taking national tests in adult literacy and numeracy at levels 1 and 2.
More than 100 people have signed up for assessments.
Tom Crompton, executive director of LSC County Durham, said: "Employers often have as much to gain from helping their staff improve their skills as the employees themselves.
"Increasing the skills of individuals strengthens the team as a whole and benefits the organisation, so employers such as the County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust should be applauded for their vision in relation to learning."
