A COMEDY inspired by a legend of North-East football is to be staged later this year.
Eighteen months after his death, former Middlesbrough and Sunderland star Brian Clough is the subject of a comedy at the Sunderland Empire.
Old Big 'Ead In The Spirit Of The Man, written by Stephen Lowe, centres on Cloughie's ghost, now playing in the East Midlands' Inspirational Spirits Division alongside Lord Byron, DH Lawrence and General Booth.
Given the chance to return to Earth, he helps a struggling writer create a drama about another Midlands hero - Robin Hood.
The show stars Colin Tarrant from TV show The Bill, and runs from April 20 to 22.
Joanne Cummins, of the theatre, said: "Brian Clough is a huge part of the footballing heritage of the North-East and this unique production will bring the much-missed idol back to life."
