A SHOPKEEPER has pleaded guilty to displaying out-of-date sandwiches despite several warnings.
Tariq Nazir, who runs Zaks Off Licence, in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, was fined £500 and ordered to pay £634.92 in costs by Teesside magistrates.
A food safety officer from Middlesbrough Council found two sandwiches in the shop's cooler that were 24 hours out of date on July 12 last year.
The hearing was told that a new member of staff had mistakenly put the sandwiches back in the fridge after Mr Nazir had earlier removed them.
The court heard that the shop had been visited every six months for the previous two years following complaints from customers.
