MARTIN Scott was one of the first managers to take advantage of the transfer window, with the loan signing of James Walker.
The Charlton striker arrives at Victoria Park for a month and is in the squad for today's home game with Swindon.
Walker has yet to appear in Alan Curbishley's first-team. Last season he made 17 reserve appearances, scoring once.
He played at Victoria Park in December 2004 for England under-18s against Scotland.
Pool have lost Neill Collins, after the defender returned to Sunderland. Darren Williams could move into the middle of defence alongside Micky Nelson.
"I was delighted to have got Neill and he will go back as a better player,'' said Scott.
"We wish him all the best and I think he's enjoyed his time here.
"We've another game coming up quickly on Monday and it means another reshuffle.
"It seems we can't get a settled side for one reason or another - injury, suspension or whatever - and it opens the door for someone else.
"We've been looking for months for a replacement at the back.
"The way the transfer system works now, with Premiership and Championship clubs, they are looking after themselves, making sure they have enough bodies for the season.
"They will only let players go from their youth set-up for experience, so it's difficult.''
Swindon, unbeaten in six games, must make changes today after six loan deals expired.
They could be with striker Jamie Cureton, who has returned to the club after a spell at Colchester.
He scored the winning goal at Victoria Park for Colchester last month.
