PLANS to demolish 187 houses on a deprived estate will go before planning officials next week.
An application has been submitted to Stockton Borough Council of a scheme to build 114 properties in the Parkfield area.
Terraced homes, dating back to the early 1900s, in Alliance Street, Hind Street, Spring Street and Templar Street will be cleared.
A planning committee meeting of councillors will discuss the development, which has been recommended for approval, on Wednesday, January 11.
The council approved a master plan design for the area in November after consultation with the community.
The council intends to replace poor quality housing, for which there is little or no demand, and improve the surrounding areas.
Over the next 15 to 20 years, up to £40m could be invested in Parkfield.
The first phase of the work will begin in the Alliance and Hind Street areas.
Parkfield residents will have the opportunity to buy one of the new homes at an affordable price.
In the meantime, the council has arranged relocation packages for residents. There have been no recorded objections to the planning proposals.
The full planning application covers the first of three intended phases of redevelopment of the wider area.
The housing layout, covering two hectares, incorporates a mix of bungalows, semi-detached houses and small groups of townhouses.
There will be two apartment blocks of 14 two-bedroomed apartments and also two, three and four-bedroomed houses.
Neighbourhood management board chairman and Parkfield resident Alex Bain said: "The north area plans provide a significant opportunity for change in the local housing conditions.
"We will be working closely, both with the council and local residents, to ensure the scheme is successful and that disruption to residents is minimised.
"We are really pleased with the successful initiatives implemented so far, which includes a facelift scheme in and around Walter Street and the work due to commence in the Trinity Street area, environmental improvements and the implementation of the phase one housing scheme in Alliance and Hind Street."
