ON-LINE gaming is coming to libraries and youth centres across Stockton next year.
Stockton Borough Council's library service is teaming up with CyberChaos Ltd to run the Local Area Network (Lan) gaming sessions every Saturday next month.
During the sessions, gamers battle it out with opponents on different computers in the network, sometimes in the same room.
The event aims to promote an interest in information technology for youngsters who do not have access to computers, while developing relationships through team play.
Helen Wilberforce, children and young person librarian for Stockton council, said: "These online gaming events are always extremely popular with youngsters, so much so that they are regularly oversubscribed.
"Holding events like these help us to remove the divide between those who have access to computers and those who do not."
The free sessions, for ages eight to 13, are from 10 am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm. On January 7 at Newtown community centre, January 14 Stockton central library, January 21 Newton community centre, January 28 The Willows youth and community Centre.
