SHOPPERS in Darlington have helped elderly and needy people tuck into festive meals this Christmas.
Darlington Lions distributed food parcels on Saturday across the town, thanks to contributions from shoppers.
The club collected more than £3,000 when they visited a number of supermarkets in the town in the run-up to Christmas.
The money paid for about 200 parcels, with Christmas cards, to be delivered to those who are elderly, lonely, or in need.
Lions publicity officer Alan Watson said: "People have been very generous this year. We had one person who even gave £20, which was tremendous. Some people get quite emotional when we deliver the parcels."
