Bottom-of-the-table Ferryhill Athletic twice led but still made their exit from the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup when Wolviston won an eight-goal thriller at Metcalfe Park.
The visitors made a super start, scoring inside three minutes through Andy Davies but they were behind at the interval as Stephen Kilpatrick and John Cairns replied.
Immediately on resuming, Liam Pearson equalised and Peter Robson regained the initiative for Ferryhill on 75 minutes.
Their hopes of winning for only the second time disappeared when Wolviston struck three times in five minutes just before the end.
Kilpatrick made the score 3-3, Kevin Osmond struck the home side's fourth goal and Kilpatrick celebrated his first full game completing a hat-trick in the 89th minute.
There was also a surfeit of goals at New Marske but they were all scored by Stokesley SC who defeated their rivals for the second time in a week.
Jonathan Newton rifled a first-half hat-trick and Craig Johnson also netted leaving the Seasiders an almost impossible mission.
It became even worse when James Alsop and Richard Mills took the final score to 6-0.
Birtley Town scored three times in the opening 19 minutes and went on to defeat Willington 4-1.
Stephen Rochester, with a brace, and Neil Blue were early marksmen and although there was temporary respite for the visitors as Birtley conceded an own goal, Rochester took his personal tally to four in the second period.
Goals were less plentiful in the other ties.
After going two-up courtesy of Billy Middleton and James Kesterton, Teesside Athletic held on despite Mark Oliver giving Harton and Westoe a chance when he netted on 70 minutes.
Boldon CA also won 2-1 defeating South Tyneside rivals Cleadon SC, Ian Jackson, who was sent off on 55 minutes put Boldon in front and Andrew Whalley also struck.
Danny Efford reduced the deficit but despite playing 35 minutes with 10 men, Boldon held on.
Ryhope CW went out at Whitehaven who won with two goals in the last 12 minutes from Craig Robson and Stephen Hewitt.
One game was played in the league and Nissan SSC Sunderland went down 4-0 at home to Windscale.
Lee Dixon and Michael Ferguson netted in the first period and although Nissan improved, they leaked two late goals to Peter O'Donnell and Kevin Lowe.
