Two men who were killed when a stolen car crashed into a traffic island at the weekend have been named.
They are Robert Michael Royal 22, from Lewes Road, Darlington, believed to be the driver and Stephen John Dickens, 24, of Holgate Moor Green, Darlington, believed to be a passenger.
Durham Police released the names of the dead men today after they had been formally identified following the crash at 4am Sunday.
Both men were declared dead shortly after arrival at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
The accident happened after the stolen red Rover MG crashed into a traffic island and careered in to a parked van.
One of the men was thrown from the vehicle while the other was trapped inside the car-which then caught fire.
