CHILDREN from a school used their loaves to learn about the dangers of fire.
Pupils from Pittington Primary School, near Durham City, were visited by staff from Warburtons Bakery and firefighters from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service to learn about fire safety.
The bakery has put together a Use Your Loaf education pack, highlighting the dangers children can encounter in everyday life. This includes a chapter on fire safety.
It was put together in the light of figures which show that, on average, 30 children across the UK are killed and 900 injured in house fires every year.
The pack, for children from five to seven, has been sent to 150 North-East schools and includes sections on road and holiday safety and safety in the home and garden.
Carolyn Liddle, based at Warburtons Newcastle depot, gave the pack to headteacher Cathy Lee.
Ms Liddle said: "They can be used to draw attention to the causes of fire."
