PROCEEDS from a community play have been donated to an appeal to safeguard land around a North Yorkshire town.
A cheque for £600 was handed over to the Richmondshire Open Spaces Appeal (Rosa) at the group's fundraising evening on Wednesday.
Rosa was one of three charities to benefit equally from Richmond Amateur Dramatic Society's production of Trafalgar: A Celebration of the Sea, staged at the Georgian Theatre Royal in October.
The other recipients were the Richmond Station Group and the Georgian Theatre.
Bev Joicey, of the dramatic society, said: "The Trafalgar production was all about enriching our community through people's involvement in the production itself and as a way of supporting local causes.
"Rosa is an excellent example of people in the area working together to safeguard something that matters and it makes Richmond the kind of place you are proud to be involved with."
The cheque was presented during a Rosa fundraising evening at Richmond town hall.
The evening featured performances by singers and a flute choir from Richmond School. There was also an auction of paintings by local artists, which raised £788.
Rosa was formed to buy threatened open spaces around Richmond for community use.
