CROWDS are expected to gather in a town centre tonight as the festive celebrations get under way.
Residents from Willington will join local dignitaries for a carol service on the town green at 5pm.
The Reverend Tom Wilkinson will switch on the Christmas tree lights before leading the way with some seasonal tunes.
County Councillor Brian Myers MBE said the event was a chance for the community to get together and join in the festive spirit.
He said: "It should be a lovely evening and we hope everybody will gather in the resource centre afterwards for mince pies and ginger wine."
