VOLUNTEERS from across the county are to be awarded medals in recognition of their service to their communities.
A total of 47 North Yorkshire residents will receive a Year of the Volunteer medal.
Among the recipients is Fiona Walker, from York, a volunteer with Placing, Assessment and Counselling Teams (Pact) for seven years.
The group helps disabled young people make positive changes to their lives.
Ms Walker organised a seminar for councillors in York about transport issues faced by disabled people.
She also helped organise a conference on housing issues for disabled young people.
Elizabeth Salter, Year of the Volunteer campaign manager, said: "The Year of the Volunteer medal is just a small way to thank the incredible hard work of so many committed volunteers from North Yorkshire who give up their time to help others.
"I hope that the medal winners inspire anyone who has not already enjoyed the benefits of volunteering to give it a go and make a difference in their local community."
Medals will be presented at a ceremony in London early next year.
