A FORMER pupil has returned to school - to say thank you.
Richard Gratwick, who is now leader of the Oxford University Orchestra, returned to Yarm School to present a cheque to charity.
At the end of last September, virtuoso Richard gave a fundraising concert at the school in memory of his father, Chris Gratwick, who died of cancer last year.
The 90-minute performance, before an audience of 300, raised £1,123 and Richard wanted to return to Yarm School to say thank you for the support, and to present the cheque to Lindsay Kay, of Cancer Research UK.
He said of his recital: "I thoroughly enjoyed it, and that is even taking into account the many hours of sore fingers and multitude of broken strings that went into the practices."
Ms Kay said: " We are highly appreciative of all of Richard's efforts to support us, and I am delighted to be accepting this cheque on behalf of the charity."
