A MAN caught in possession of cocaine claimed it was for his own use, a court heard.
Durham Crown Court was told that Lee Patterson, 28, was stopped while driving by police, who recovered the drugs in a search of the vehicle, on September 17 last year.
Robin Patton, prosecuting, said Mr Patterson also had £1,100 in cash. Tests confirmed there were 17.8g of the class A drug, which was 77 per cent pure.
Mr Patton said that evidence was not in dispute, but said: "The issue is whether that was for his own use, or to supply."
Mr Patterson admitted possession of the cocaine, but denied the more serious charge of possession with intent to supply.
The case was adjourned for trial and Mr Patterson, of Wakenshaw Road, Gilesgate, Durham, was bailed to return for the hearing, on February 13.
