PUPILS at a Darlington school have been visiting an elderly care home.
Over seven weeks, the year 11 Longfield School students have worked with staff at Hundens Lane Barchester Care Home.
They have tidied the grounds and done general maintenance work, served meals, chatted to residents, put up decorations and carried out cleaning duties.
They did the work as part of the community service section of their Asdan (Award Scheme and Development Accreditation Network) silver award, part of a project with the Prince's Trust. They have already gained their bronze award.
As a result, three pupils have been offered jobs and work placements for one day a week until they leave school.
Sarah Toft hopes to get a care work apprenticeship when she leaves school; Matthew Smith is getting experience in the maintenance department and Jonathan Hakin is getting experience as a chef.
All 12 pupils who took part in the scheme have been invited to the care home Christmas party.
School staff Terry Bainbridge and Stuart Goodchild co-ordinated the project.
