A retail development including a DIY warehouse, garden centre and partial demolition of a DIY store has been approved by Harrogate Borough Council's planning committee.
Councillors overwhelmingly voted to approve the scheme with only one vote against.
The development will take place in Oak Beck Road near the New Park roundabout where the Skipton Road and Ripon Road meet.
The scheme, part of which will be near Eastville Terrace, will see partial demolition of the Focus DIY store on the site and construction of a building to create a 10,000sq ft warehouse for bulky goods.
The new retail warehouse will cover 40,000sq ft. The garden centre will take up 8,000sq ft which will be adjoined to the warehouse.
Agents for the applicants Gregory Projects (Oak Beck) Ltd said a retail statement showed the scheme would not result in an adverse impact on Harrogate town centre.
However, residents tabled 13 letters of objection expressing concern about a range of issues, including noise, extra traffic, light pollution, loss of wildlife and closeness of the development to residential boundaries.
Councillors agreed to impose 24 conditions as part of the approval.
