A GROUP of school children had a lesson yesterday that was out of this world.
Their teacher was spaceman Al Sacco, who flew on the shuttle Columbia in 1995 and conducted more than 200 experiments in zero-gravity.
Professor Sacco visited the Centre for Process Innovation, at Wilton, which is committed to encouraging students to take an interest in science.
The astronaut talked to 50 visiting youngsters about his career and his involvement in the US space programme, which goes back many years.
Prof Sacco is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and of the International Academy of Astronauts.
Later, he delivered this year's John Coulson Memorial Lecture for 14 to 18-year-olds in Newcastle.
