A CAR dealer has bought the first plot of land on the business park of a £100m regeneration scheme along the banks of the River Tees.
RMB Automotive plans to set up two dealerships on the Bowesfield development, in Stockton, creating 30 jobs.
The firm, which already has Toyota and Lexus dealerships in Darlington, High Leven, in Teesside and Northallerton, in North Yorkshire, will invest £4.5m in the 3.25 acre plot.
Architect Elder Lester McGregor is working on the development and construction is due to start next month. RMB managing director, Robert Bennett, said the business will open at the end of summer 2006.
The 82 acre Bowesfield site is being developed by The Banks Group, which has its head office in West Cornforth, County Durham, and an annual turnover of £50m.
The scheme incorporates residential, commercial, leisure and nature conservation areas and is expected to create more than 1,500 jobs once complete.
More than 4,000 people objected to the project, fearing it would lead to the over-development of the riverside, but plans were given the go-ahead in January 2003.
