A BRITISH soldier was killed and three others were injured in Cyprus when their Army Land Rover rolled over and hit a tree, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday.
Fusilier Daniel Whinham, 22, who had only been on the island a fortnight, died at the scene, while one of his colleagues was seriously injured.
Fusilier Whinham, from Gateshead, was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, based at Dhekelia, on the island's south-east coast.
The most badly injured soldier, who was left unconscious with multiple injuries, and another with serious spinal injuries, are undergoing surgery. The fourth had multiple bruises.
Three of the group were Fusiliers, while one was with the Royal Logistic Corps but attached to the regiment in Cyprus.
