A MEMBER of staff at a County Durham school went the extra mile to raise funds for charity.
Beverley Howard, finance officer at Woodham Community Technology College, raised £500 for Cancer Research UK by completing the Great Cumbrian Run half marathon.
She ran in memory of Georgina Gibson, a close friend and former chair of governors at the school.
Ms Howard said: "I consider it a privilege to have completed the run in memory of Georgie.
"She was such a great friend to so many of us at Woodham."
Lindsay Kay, from the charity, said: "At Cancer Research UK, our world-class doctors and scientists are working together to push through new and effective treatments for cancer faster than ever before, and to prevent more people from developing the disease.
"This kind donation will be used carefully and wisely in our continuing research."
