A LABOUR MP tried something she hopes will keep voters sweet - a Tony Blair chocolate bar.

Chocolate inventors Choc-pix, from Barnard Castle, County Durham, have created a chocolate bar that transforms into a photograph when held to the light, and have produced a version featuring Mr Blair.

Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman sampled the bar at the weekend, and the company now hopes they will get the Prime Minister's vote to put the bars on sale.

Chocpix director Geoff Dixon said: "We needed a face that everyone would recognise to show how well the product works, to hand out as samples at confectionery exhibitions in Germany and America.

"Mr Blair does not know about the bars yet and we cannot sell them without his permission.

"But we would give our profits on it to charity if he does. Ideally, we would love a picture of him with the bar as it would give our company a real boost."

The company is hoping to get in touch with Downing Street and gain permission.

Chocpix has already received Government approval in the past - securing funding from Government-backed Northern Enterprise Ltd. It also featured on BBC TV show Dragons' Den last week.

Ms Goodman said: "It is always great to back local enterprise. Their product is fantastic and it is good to see them getting interest from all around the world."
