APPRENTICES on Teesside saw their hard work rewarded yesterday.
In a ceremony in Middlesbrough, Mayor Ray Mallon presented certificates to apprentices from the council's training centre.
The HBS Work-Based Learning Training Centre takes 80 apprentices a year, training them in business and administration programmes.
Among the 40 apprentices receiving the accolade was 17-year-old Pavel Tkachuk, from Kazakhstan.
The teenager, who moved to Redcar with his family 18 months ago, began his apprenticeship in January.
Despite English being his second language, he completed his apprenticeship three months early.
He said: "I have really enjoyed being at the training centre. I have learned a great deal about work, met a lot of new friends and a lot of people have complimented me on how my English has improved."
Training centre manager Ann White said: "All the apprentices will now be going forward onto different career paths, but will no doubt be keeping in touch with each other and the centre."
