POLICE will be taking to the roads across North Yorkshire in force today for their fourth No Casualty Day.
Their three previous events all showed a significant reduction in accidents across the county, but officers are still aiming for a perfect result - no deaths or injuries on the county's 6,000 miles of roads.
Extra high-visibility patrols will be out all day, backed by speed and safety checks on a variety of roads with bad accident records.
Officers will be concentrating especially on drink-drivers and promise tough action against offenders.
Speeders are also being warned that the force is still operating a hard-line fast-tracking system, which can see extreme speeders put before a court within days of being caught.
Inspector Chris Charlton said: "We will be out there putting a lot of effort and resources into this campaign.
"But I also want every road user, from the rider of the smallest bicycle to the driver of the largest lorry, to play their part in driving down the accident toll."
