OUR front page picture of a mother lovingly cradling her new-born son is one of the most moving we have ever shown.
It is a picture of happiness, heartbreak and unselfish courage.
What a terrible dilemma Bernadette Mimura faced when, just one month into her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Anyone given such shocking news would immediately ask doctors for life-saving drugs.
But not Bernadette. Her only thoughts were for her unborn child, so this remarkable mum refused the drugs that may have saved her.
It is hard to comprehend how she felt when making that terrible choice - her own life or her baby's.
Bernadette was determined to have her baby and her son was born fit and well. But the proud mum had only days to live.
We are told that throughout her pregnancy her faith shone through and her illness never got her down.
Our photograph is a testimony to a mother's love. Shortly after Nathan was baptised, Bernadette was admitted to Butterwick Hospice and died within a week.
In later years when Nathan is told of his mother's sacrifice, what a proud young man he will be.
Canon Alan Sheridan, who performed the christening, is appealing for cash towards the cost of sending Bernadette's body back to her native Philippines so her family can bury her.
We sincerely hope enough money is raised so her family and friends can say farewell to such a courageous mother.
