A SCHOOL is hosting fortnightly drop-in sessions so the community can get in touch with their local police officer.
Every other Wednesday, PC Rob Curtain, beat officer in the West End of Darlington, will be based at Hummersknott School and Language College.
Wednesday has been chosen as it is the school's busiest night.
PC Curtain will be working at the school between 5pm and 6.30pm.
The idea is for the officer to answer queries from the general public about any policing matters.
Hummersknott and Skerne Park Primary are part of the Government's extended schools programme.
This means that they have been given additional funding so they can pioneer ways of becoming the hub of the community.
Kate Hinchliffe, extended schools co-ordinator, said: "The police drop-in is just one of the ways the school is extending the provision it offers to the local community.
"Anyone with a query or who would like some individual advice is welcome - just call in for a chat and a cuppa with the local beat officer."
The next session is on Wednesday.
