SALLY RAWLINGS has been appointed a champion for North Yorkshire.
She has taken over as the chief executive of the Yorkshire Rural Community Council (YRCC), succeeding Ian Strong who has retired after 22 years in the role.
She joins YRCC after working in the West Midlands for the Countryside Agency and the sub-regional economic partnership in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Her experience covers issues ranging from rural and urban housing, economic policy and young people to inner-city regeneration.
"Our aim at YRCC is to continue to listen to what community groups want, in order to carry out work which helps meet the needs of people living in rural areas," she said yesterday.
"While continuing YRCC's priority work on helping tackle rural deprivation and social exclusion, I also want to ensure that rural Yorkshire has a strong voice at the regional political and economic level."
Based at Skelton, near York, YRCC is an independent charitable organisation which helps communities improve their quality of life.
