THE start of the second phase of a multi-million pound college was launched yesterday.
Stockton Riverside College moved to its site in the Teesdale area of Stockton in 2003.
The official ground breaking of phase two was performed by guest of honour Mark Haysom, chief executive of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). The project, costing £4.6m, is backed by the LSC.
The building will include modern facilities such as a conference space and vocational training workshops.
Phase two is located on one acre of land adjacent to the college building.
College principal Sujinder Sangha, said: "The new site will make use of high-quality learning facilities and, along with the college, serve our students and the local community."
Speaking for the building firm, Terrace Hill, development executive Martin Vickerman said: "We are delighted to be continuing our ongoing relationship with Stockton Riverside College as we developed phase one in 2002.
"We are sure that the new building will be a major success for the college and will provide much-needed space to enhance the ever-increasing college facilities."
Last year, more than 15,000 students attended the college, gaining 25,500 vocational and academic qualifications. It provides courses from foundation to advanced level in areas such as business and childcare.
