THREE charities received a bumper windfall yesterday thanks to a shopping spree.
Each year, the Durham Shopping Extravaganza is held at the Ramside Hall Hotel. Organised by a charity committee, the two-day sale - on November 19 and 20 - attracted record crowds and helped raise £22,000.
Committee chairman Mary-Anne Sinclair selected three charities to receive the proceeds.
Representatives of the local branches of Mind, The Place2B and Sick Children's Trust received their share of the money raised yesterday.
Committee member Caroline Broadfoot said after the presentation of the money: "We are absolutely delighted with the amount we have raised this year.''
Mrs Broadfoot said plans were under way for next year's event, which will be held at Ramside Hall Hotel on November 18 and 19.
