SANTA Clause was joined by Mrs Clause on a custom-built motorcycle for a Christmas Gala.

The couple arrived in a parade of dancing youngsters on the three-wheeled motorcycle for the second Ingleby Barwick festive event.

Father Christmas was greeted by about 2,000 residents from the estate before taking his seat in the magical winter wonderland grotto.

Ingleby Barwick Residents Network (IBRN) organised the event with a fun fair, choir performances and Northallerton Silver Band at All Saints School.

Children visiting Santa received chocolates from the head elf in the grotto while Christmas trees and wreaths were on sale outside.

IBRN chairman, Angelo Coucke, said more space had been allocated for Saturday's event after 2,500 turned out last year.

He said: "Entertainment included a piper to welcome visitors and Northallerton Silver Band playing in the main hall.

"Ingleby Dance School sang Christmas carols around the piano and a magician was a hit with the young ones."

Last year, the main focus for Ingleby's youngsters was a winding labyrinth created by Nick Green, of the church community group Ingleby.net.

This year, visitors were introduced to the real meaning of Christmas with an animated walkway leading to the grotto.

Mr Coucke said: "It took a lot to set up for just one day but it was certainly worth it.

"The turn-out was fantastic and we hope this will be an annual event for the residents of Ingleby Barwick."
