A VILLAGE band is celebrating success in two music contests.
Fishburn Band has been named champion of the Scottish Open Contest, held in Glasgow last weekend, less than a month after finishing third in the Pontin's Contest in Wales.
The Scottish Championship - which saw 17 top bands from across the UK compete - is the band's greatest achievement in its 50-year history.
Playing St Magnus as their own choice test piece, Fishburn Band was praised for their exciting and well-controlled enjoyable performance.
Billy Elliot, vice secretary, said: "Everyone has worked really hard to do so well at both competitions and the support of local people is also important.
"We've also recently secured sponsorship from Thompson Solicitors to work with professional conductor Ray Farr as well as resident conductor Chris Bentham to polish our performances."
Mr Farr, who is conductor in residence at Durham University, was praised by adjudicators Richard Evans and David Horsefield for his direction and musical interpretation.
The band will next perform on Thursday night at 7pm, on Fishburn village green, for the annual carol singing then on Friday, December 16, at 8.15pm, at Fishburn Workingmen's Club for their annual Christmas Concert.
