CLASSROOM entrepreneurs at North schools are learning how to work together.
Pupils are piloting a scheme setting up and running co-operatives, all using free trade ethics.
The Open College Network North-East, which is promoting the Young Co-operatives scheme, said it could "inspire a new generation of responsible entrepreneurs".
Kevin McGrother, of Young Co-operatives, worked with network official Carol Wadsworth to develop the programme.
Pupils buy Fair Trade products and then sell them at stalls in their school or at local events.
The scheme was launched at the House of Commons last year and gives young people the chance to work in co-operatives, acquire business skills and help producers and their families in developing countries.
It has already signed up more than 200 UK schools and youth organisations.
The Open College Network was formed by the North-East Open College Network, in Newcastle, and the Open College Network in Middlesbrough.
