A KEY phase of a regeneration scheme has cleared its first planning hurdle.
Middlesbrough councillors are being advised there is no need for an environmental impact assessment to be carried out prior to the rebuilding of a part of North Ormesby.
There could be as many as 150 homes built on a cleared land north of James Street, of which 110 houses would be built for private sale and 40 as affordable homes.
Redevelopment is expected to start with a planning application for 14 homes near Market Square.
Builders Haslam Homes and architects Ian Darby and Partners are asking the council for a decision on whether an environment impact study is required.
An officers' report to be considered by councillors on Friday, says the site is not identified as being of any particular environmental sensitivity.
