WORK is under way on a council regeneration project in east Cleveland.
The Tees Valley Housing Group has started work on 52 homes at The Courts development in Redcar.
Working alongside builders Bellway Homes and Persimmon, the housing group is building 100 of the 370 homes on the regeneration site.
Fourteen two-bedroomed bungalows have already been handed over to residents, in phase one of the programme.
The next stage will see a further 30 homes built at the site. Work has also started on phase two, which will see 22 units created.
All 52 homes are due for completion next September.
The development will include a pub, medical facilities, a youth and community centre and shops.
Barry Keane, chairman of Tees Valley Housing Group, said: "People moving into these new homes is the first tangible result of a long process of regeneration and, as work begins on the next phases, we can look forward to an exciting year ahead as The Courts starts to take shape."
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's member for housing and neighbourhood renewal, Chris Abbott, said: "The Courts is one of the council's biggest regeneration projects. It is an exciting time for all involved to see things start to spring up on site."
