ENGINEERING students from Darlington College of Technology have been getting to grips with the technology of their forefathers.
Twenty students on the full-time National Certificate in Engineering course travelled to the Royal Armouries, in Leeds, to study the principles of the catapult.
College tutor Rob Evans said: "We have been looking at the dynamics of such machines in the classroom and then we were offered the chance to put theory into practice.
"The students were able to assemble an ancient catapult and then launch a variety of lead missiles into the air in the tilt yards to see how far they could fling them.
"It proved to be a good team-building exercise and a lot of fun as well.
"They received advice from some of the experts at the Royal Armouries and the catapult they used is now on display in the Tower of London."
