PASSENGERS in Teesdale can look forward to an easy ride after the district's taxis passed safety tests with flying colours.
Of the 40 taxis inspected, only two were found to have minor faults, which were rectified immediately.
The inspections were a joint operation between Teesdale District Council and Durham police traffic officers.
Taxi drivers were given notice to attend the council's garages in Stainton Grove for safety checks where police vehicle examiners inspected their cars. Environmental health officers also checked driver details.
Anne Bell, the council's environmental health assistant, who carried out the checks with environmental health officer Brian Whelan, said: "I can assure passengers that the taxis checked were of a high standard."
The operation is part of a programme organised by Durham Police's traffic unit.
