FAIRIES, cowboys and policewomen took to the streets of Shildon to raise money in memory of a good friend they lost to breast cancer earlier this year.
The group of up to 27 friends wanted to do something to celebrate the life of Jacqueline Simpson as well as raising money for charity.
Mrs Simpson, of Jubilee Crescent, lost her brave battle against cancer in July.
The friends, which included Mrs Simpson's daughter Lisa Johnson and volunteers from the Jubilee Fields Community Centre, visited all of the pubs in the town in fancy dress on November 12 and raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK and Children in Need.
This week, Barbara Fuller and Miss Johnson presented £500 to Lindsay Kay, community fundraiser for Cancer Research UK.
Mrs Fuller said: "Jacqueline was very well known and very well thought of in Shildon and we got a fantastic response everywhere we went.
"We would just like to thank everyone who turned out and everyone who dipped into their pockets and gave donations.''
