VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help enthusiastic readers who can't get about easily.
Following the successful opening of the community resource centre in North Road, Stokesley, the home library and information service has gone from strength to strength. Now, more volunteers are needed to meet demand.
The free service works in partnership with the local community care association and the Volunteer Bureau so that those who find it difficult to get to the library or have difficulty carrying items, can have books and audio books delivered to their homes.
The county's executive member for community service, Chris Metcalfe, said: "When you can't get out and about easily, still being able to read and enjoy books makes a huge difference to your quality of life.
"The social side is also important, and customers enjoy having a regular visitor and a chat about books. In many cases, strong friendships have been forged.
"We urgently need more volunteers. North Yorkshire people are known for their community spirit and I'm sure that they will come forward to help this excellent service."
The community resource centre will hold a coffee morning for current volunteers and their customers nextWednesday.
People are invited to call in any time between 10.30am and 11.30am for a coffee and chat to find out more about volunteering for the scheme.
