PUPILS at an east Durham school have been digging in to help improve their learning environment.
In a bid to expand the horticultural dimension of its grounds, Easington Community School held a tree planting ceremony yesterday.
The event was organised by the Woodland Trust which since its establishment in 1972 has planted more than 4.5million trees and created 3,200 hectares of new native woodland.
A boy and a girl from years seven to 11 were selected to plant ten trees in the grounds of the premises. Those attending the ceremony were also invited to view an environmental exhibition being staged at the school.
