SCHOOLCHILDREN have helped plant daffodils for a charity in memory of people who have died of cancer.
Marie Curie Cancer Care, which provides specialist nursing care for sufferers, has created one of its Fields of Hope in the grounds of Durham's University Hospital of North Durham.
It is the third in the city - the others are at Wharton Park and next to the Passport Office - and was planted by ten youngsters from year eight at Durham Johnston School.
The charity's community fundraising manager for the area, said: "People can make a donation - envelopes are available at the hospital reception - and have a daffodil in memory of a family member, friend or work colleague. There is also a book of remembrance they can write in."
She said the Fields of Hope were proving popular with people wanting to remember someone taken by cancer.
People can also sponsor a bulb by calling the charity's local office on 0191-382 3311.
