THE grieving mother of a care worker murdered as he went to visit an elderly client has appealed for help in bringing his killer to justice.
Michael Grey suffered head injuries after he was attacked on November 11, near the Plaza Tavern, in the West End of Newcastle. He died last week in hospital.
Yesterday, his 74-year-old mother, Audrey, pleaded with witnesses to come forward.
She said: "For both my sake and that of my other son, Malcolm, please help in whatever way you can.
"The worst thing of all is that I feel like Michael is in limbo. We want to be able to lay Michael to rest."
Mrs Grey, who shared a house with her son in the Arthur's Hill area of the city, said her son's organs had been donated to other people, giving two strangers the chance of life.
She said: "I am taking some comfort from this and I know he would approve of helping others. He was a very caring person."
Mr Grey worked as a radiographer for 20 years, but left his job to become a care worker. Mrs Grey said her son mainly worked with elderly people, doing their shopping or housework, and had been on his way to an evening visit with a client when attacked.
A 22-year-old man arrested on Monday has been released on bail.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0191-214 6555, ext 62508.
