THE Princess Royal will visit the region this week to help a North-East factory celebrate its 40th anniversary.
The princess will be the guest of honour at the celebrations at Cummins Engine Company, in Yarm Road, Darlington, on Wednesday.
She will then spend time at Deerbolt Young Offenders' Institution, in Barnard Castle, County Durham, before heading up to Weardale to inspect Northumbrian Water's drinking water treatment works in Wearhead.
The princess will take a guided tour of the plant with local dignitaries and company bosses before watching the presentation of a power sports wheelchair to a pupil from the Percy Hedley School, Forest Hall, Newcastle, where she recently opened a sports academy.
She will also meet with children from Weardale Primary School.
Northumbrian Water chairman Sir Frederick Holliday, who will escort her around the works, said: "We are honoured and proud that the princess has chosen to visit our treatment works."
